James McElhinney was born in Bohillon, Burt, Ireland in 1827. He emigrated to Australia in 1854. He met and married Elizabeth Johnston who was also from Ireland. They eventually settled near Woodend in Victoria, and they had seven children. James died in 1899. There are many descendants of James and Elizabeth living in Australia.
